New Pigment Standard Available: Uriolide

We’re happy to announce that Uriolide has been added to our pigment standard portfolio as a ready-to-use calibration standard. Uriolide -along with Micromonal and Micromonol- is found in the pico-sized prasinophyte Micromonas sp., a globally distributed green alga. Recently, we detected Micromonas in Arctic samples from one of our clients, highlighting its growing presence in high-latitude marine ecosystems. The increasing occurrence of Micromonas in Arctic waters may reflect broader climate-driven shifts in marine ecosystems. As Arctic temperatures rise and sea ice declines, pico-sized phytoplankton like Micromonas are expected to become more dominant, potentially reshaping the base of the marine food web. At DHI, our pigment standards are used to calibrate HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) systems, ensuring precise and reliable pigment analysis. With over 45 different pigment standards now available, we support laboratories and research institutions worldwide in advancing phytoplankton monitoring and marine science. Filtration manifold

DHI filtration equipment is the result of years of lab development. Our handmade, rotatable manifolds are designed for easy vacuum filtration onto 25 mm filters, with options to collect or drain filtrate. Compact and easy to use, they fit well in fume hoods and tight spaces. Each sample can be filtered independently, making the system ideal for handling multiple samples at once.

Phytoplankton pigment analysis by HPLC

Consider having your samples analyzed by DHI. We routinely carry out many thousands of analyses each year, and DHI is accredited by The Danish Accreditation Fund to analyze phytoplankton pigments concentrations in aquatic environments.

The HPLC method used at DHI for analyzing pigments has in intercomparisons shown to provide ‘state-of-the-art’ results. DHI has participated in several intercomparisons and became in each of them a part of the QA subset where the average results of the QA subset are used as the reference values (proxy for truth).
